What We Do In The Shadows is one of the mockumentaries that I watched to get a better idea of the feel and delivery of the mockumentary style before making my own mockumentary for class. I will say that I've never been a fan of vampires because they always seem very cliched and over-dramatic. Anyhow, I watched this movie and laughed myself silly because the actors are hilarious and the movie cleverly mocked typical vampire attitude and behavior that we've come to know from the genre.
The movie stars Taika Waititi as Viago, a vampire who struggles to keep the house clean, and the story starts out feeling like an episode of MTV Cribs. He walks around the house followed by a camera crew and shows us the creepy mansion he inhabits with his flatmates. His flatmates are all funny and strange in their own ways. The situations they get wrapped up in, and the contemporary lifestyles they try to live, make this film a riot to watch.
I recommend this movie for fans of comedy or mockumentaries that want to see a unique movie. It's probably one of the weirdest concepts for a movie. Everyone today thinks of Twilight as the vampire standard, where this movie depicts them as weirdly misplaced men that try to make the best of their strange, vampire lives. This movie was released in 2015 and I have not heard much about it, but I believe it deserves much more recognition than it has received thus far.
